The $5.8 million construction project is starting the home stretch toward Crozet Library's opening. Construction is 75 percent complete and the library is on track to open in August.
Construction crews are starting to put up drywall inside and finishing the bricks outside. The library gets hooked up to electricity Wednesday.
The nearly 24,000-square-foot library will feature a 70-seat community room, a fireplace lounge and a meditative reading space with a view of the mountains.
"This will be very open as people come in. They'll be able to immediately see where the stacks are, the service desk, circulation desk. It'll just be bright and inviting," said Bill Schrader, Build Crozet Library fundraising chair.
Build Crozet Library has collected about $742,000 in donations - enough to cover nearly all of the furniture and technology for the new facility.
"The librarians in Crozet have never had the chance to keep programs before, develop them, have a lot of volunteers," Shrader said. "Now, they'll have space to do all of that, plus more."
The group is launching a new push to raise money to buy new books for the library over the next two years. Dave Matthews Band's Bama Works fund is promising $100,000 if the community can match it with donations.
