UVA Lax Loses 5th Straight Game; Falls 10-7 Against UNC

Posted: Updated:

The Virginia men's lacrosse team lost five games in a row for the first time since 1996, as #19 UVA lost 10-7 against #6 North Carolina Saturday at Klockner Stadium.

The Cavaliers (5-6, 0-2) fell behind 4-0 in the 1st quarter.

They trimmed the deficit to one on two occasions, but were never able to take the lead.

Goalie Kieran Burke made 23 saves for the Tar Heels.

Head coach Dom Starsia says, "I thought we had a lot of good opportunities. We either didn't make a good shot when we needed to, or he made a couple of really nice stops. I thought the ball was in a couple times, and he pulled them out. When it feels like it's not happening for you, right now we're just not quite good enough yet."

"Stay positive," adds Nick O'Reilly. "We're still in it. We still have next week, with a bunch of good games left, a bunch of good teams, and the ACC tournament. Stay positive. Keep working hard, like we've been doing."

O'Reilly had two goals and an assist, while Mark Cockerton had a hat trick.

UVA returns to action Friday at 6pm at Duke.
