Charlottesville Runners Race for a Good Cause

Posted: Updated:

Around 900 people laced up for a race in Charlottesville Saturday morning.

The Zeta Tau Alpha chapter at the University of Virginia held its 19th annual Run for Life 5K race on grounds Saturday.

Food, water and prize stations were set up all around Nameless Field for the runners.

Race organizers say funds raised through the event go to a cause many can relate to.

"The other day at chapter we were kind of trying to get people excited and we did something like 'Raise your hand if you know anyone that's been affected by breast cancer.' And pretty much everyone in the room raised their hand, so it's really universal cause that we're proud to be able to support," said Nikki Tracy, Run For Life race director.

Zeta Tau Alpha raised close to $19,000 for the UVA Breast Care Center through last year's Run for Life race.
