Car Accident in Fluvanna Leaves Two Men Dead

A fatal car accident in Fluvanna County has left two dead. It happened near 3100 Shores Road just after midnight Saturday.

Virginia State Police say 58-year-old Allen W. Carter of Landover, Maryland was driving northbound on Route 640 at a high rate of speed when he ran into a tree.

Carter and his passenger, 57-year-old Hershell Edmonds of Washington D.C., died at the scene.

About 50 loved ones showed up to the scene of the crash Saturday morning.

The driver was reportedly in town for his brother's funeral.

Virginia State Police Trooper T.Z. Beams is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday (April 6, 2013) in Fluvanna County. The crash occurred at 12:08 a.m. on Route 640 less than a mile north of Route 714.

A 1996 Mercedes S300 was traveling south on Route 640 when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver, Allen W. Carter, 58, of Landover, Md., overcorrected causing the car to cross back over the roadway, run off the right side of the road and strike a tree.

Both Carter and his passenger, Hershell Edmonds, 57, of Washington, D.C., died at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
