One Member Says Augusta School Funding Not Up to Par

Posted: Updated:

Thursday night the Augusta County School Board heard a presentation from one of its own.

Board member Nick Collins showed both the public and his peers some numbers. He compared Augusta to nine other counties in the region, specifically Rockingham, which is similar in size to Augusta.

Collins argues that if Augusta County contributed as much per student as Rockingham County it could better serve its community.

"We would have six or seven more million dollars annually to put into our school budget, to put towards teacher salaries, to put towards technology, to put towards healthcare benefits, to put towards everything that this school system offers," Collins said.
