Former University of Virginia player and coach Jeff Jones was officially introduced as the new head basketball coach at Old Dominion on Thursday.

Jones replaces Blaine Taylor who was fired in February during ODU's worst season since 1942.

Jones, who's wife is from Virginia Beach, says he was impressed with ODU's vision for the future and commitment to the basketball program.   Jones says he has great respect for the basketball tradition at ODU.

The 52-year old Jones spent 13 years at American University leading the Patriots to a 212-182 record. He says he isn't using ODU has a stepping stone.

Jones says, "One of the issues that I think is problematic in college athletics and college coaching is the jumping from job to job. I've never been interested in that so I'm coming to Old Dominion 100 percent committed to getting back on track and having a lot of success both on an off the floor."

He adds, "What I looked for at Virginia, American, and now at Old Dominion is having a place to help build a program and building a family a basketball family. You don't do that by keeping an eye on whatever the next job is.
