Women’s Club of Greene County Hosts Yard Sale to Benefit Children
Christmas may be more than eight months away, but a group in Greene County already has a holiday project in the works.
In an effort to give children in Greene a special holiday season, it's a yard sale to raise money for Christmas.
The Women's Club of Greene County is calling it the "not so ordinary yard sale."
The group is collecting donated items for the yard sale through Friday at the Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church is Ruckersville.
Saturday, the yard sale will kick off at the church and all of the proceeds will fund the "Caring for Children" project.
The church will be packed with everything from clothes, furniture, antiques, toys and more. Last year, the proceeds helped provide more than 400 children with a new gift and three books.
"We've had overwhelming support from the community. The families are so grateful; we've had families come by in the past that have stated these are the only gifts their children have received or will receive for Christmas," said Suzanne Latchford, a member of the women's club.
Anyone interested in donating items for the yard sale benefit can drop them off at the church before noon on Friday.
The church will open its doors to shoppers on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Members of the women's club say it's best to come early because items sell out fast.
