Jeff Jones led the Virginia basketball team to the NCAA tournament five times in his tenure as the Cavaliers head coach, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1993, and the Elite Eight in 1995.

The UVA alum has a new job.   On Wednesday Jones was hired as the new head basketball coach at Old Dominion.

Jones has been the head coach at American University for the last 13 years, leading the Patriots to the NCAA tournament twice.  Jones had a record of 212-182 during his tenure at AU.

Jones will replace Blaine Taylor at ODU, who was fired in February after the Monarchs' worst season since 1942.

The 52-year-old Jones is friends with ODU athletic director Wood Selig, from their time as colleagues at Virginia.

Jones will officially be introduced at ODU at a press conference Thursday morning.
