CULPEPER –The bridge over the Roach River on Route 603 (Bingham Mountain Road) in southwestern Greene County will close to traffic on Monday, April 1. The bridge will be closed until April 24 so the superstructure can be replaced.
The current structure is a steel-span, timber-deck bridge that is structurally deficient and posted for an eight-ton maximum weight limit. That bridge will be replaced with a cast concrete superstructure that is built to current design standards and will allow all legal load vehicles to cross.
Signs for a detour route will be posted prior to the closure. Access to all private entrances on both sides of the bridge will be maintained during construction.
