Charlottesville Book Sale Helps Raise Money to Support Library

Posted: Updated:

A popular Charlottesville book sale is raising funds to support the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library.

People lined up in the rain Sunday morning to get their hands on some donated books. The "Friends of the Library" kicked off the 48th Annual Spring Book Sale at the Gordon Avenue branch over the weekend.

Organizers say the very first sale started brought in about $700. Now, the sale raises $100,000 for the library system.

"All the special projects that they have, things that aren't covered by state and local funding, you know are paid for by the friends," said Bill Davis of Friends of the Library. "When a new branch comes up like Crozet library, the friends donate a lot of money to get it started. We recently donated $100,000 to the Crozet library and there will be more."

The sale continues until next Sunday. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. All items will be half price next weekend.
