Charlottesville Skating Club Performs for Good Cause

Posted: Updated:

The Charlottesville Figure Skating Club is helping feed hungry families in central Virginia.

More than 15 figure skaters of all ages hit the ice at the Main Street Arena Saturday afternoon for the club's end-of-season exhibition. They performed routines they've been working on this season.

The club is donating more than $1,500 raised at a skate-a-thon earlier this year to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

"It was a collective effort between the Charlottesville Figure Skating Club and the Blue Ridge Hockey Association," said Tiffany Thornton, skating director. "It was a great opportunity for hockey players and figure skaters to come together on the same surface and just again have fun and raise money for a great cause here in our local community in Charlottesville."

Saturday's event also marks the beginning of championship season. Starting in April, skaters will practice in Richmond and Lynchburg to prepare for a June competition.
