Pedestrian Dies in Crash on Route 250

UPDATE: Albemarle County police are searching for a white Saab with moderate front-end damage following a fatal hit-and-run crash near Crozet.

The accident happened just before 8:00 p.m. Friday on Rockfish Gap Turnpike at Brownsville Road. Police say 71-year-old Carroll Herring was hit by two vehicles and killed while crossing the road.

Police stopped one of the vehicles a short time later  and escorted it back to the scene of the crash. Charges are pending against that driver.

According to Albemarle County police, the second car involved - a white Saab with moderate front end damage - left the scene and has not been found.  If you can help police find the second car, call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.


ORIGINAL:  Albemarle County, police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run on Rockfish Gap Turnpike Friday night. 

Police responded to the call of a crash involving a pedestrian on Route 250 just east of Miller School Road around 7:45 p.m. 

The victim, Carroll Donald Herring, died at the scene and was found lying in the road. 

Investigators are trying to come up with a description of the vehicle involved in the crash. If you can help police find the vehicle, call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
