Valley Charity Helps Teens Get Suited for Prom Night

Posted: Updated:

A valley charity is celebrating 10 years of making sure every teenager can afford to be part of a high school tradition.

The Cinderella Prom Project opens Saturday at its new storefront in the Staunton Mall.

Boys and girls from a dozen high schools are referred to the project. The services are free of charge and confidential.

Stylists will help them pick out the perfect dress or suit and assist with flowers, makeup and hair. It brings in dozens of volunteers, and businesses that donate clothing and accessories.

"They stand a little straighter. They celebrate going through school, and achieving high school graduation. We give them a little hand up on that, and that's important for everyone. Everyone should feel special and have that magic night," said Rhonda Howdyshell, project director.

The project hopes to outfit 100 students this year.
