VA Economic Developers Talk Strategy at Cville Conference

Posted: Updated:

Friday, Charlottesville was a hub for people working to move Virginia's economy forward. Hundreds of people from all over Virginia met at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville to talk about how to bring more jobs and more capital investment to Virginia.

It's part of the Virginia Economic Developer's Association spring conference. Economic developers met for rounds of panel discussions to share ideas, best practices and state-of-the-art strategies for fostering a community's economic growth.

"A lot of people from different perspectives on economic development from across the state coming together to really figure out important strategies around job creation and capital investment and those kinds of things that all communities are really interested in right now," said Lee Catlin, Albemarle County spokeswoman.

Dr. David Kolzow from the International Economic Development Council gave the keynote address, while both gubernatorial candidates - Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe - also addressed the crowd.

"The folks here today are the most important folks in Virginia today because, obviously with the Department of Defense cuts and the federal government cutbacks, we've got to diversify our economy we've got to bring in new 21st century jobs, we gotta bring in high-tech manufacturing and these are the folks who are actually going to do it," said McAuliffe.

Organizers hope the conference will encourage localities to work together and bring new jobs to Virginia.
