Albemarle Schools Look to Eliminate Trailers

Posted: Updated:

The Albemarle County School Board recently made the decision to redistrict some schools because of overcrowding. Trailers play a big part in helping those schools bursting at the seams.

Now, school administrators are working to come up with a plan to completely eliminate those portable classrooms, using capital improvements funds.

There are currently 43 trailers in the school division. With the continuous growth of the schools, the elimination is something that won't happen overnight.

"We added 200 students this year. We are projecting maybe another 180-200 students next year, so keeping up with that growth is a challenge," said Phil Giaramita, spokesperson for Albemarle Schools.

The plan strives to have all trailers eliminated within the next six or seven years.
