Albemarle Appeals Employee Benefits Case to be Refiled

Posted: Updated:

A lawyer representing a group of former Albemarle County employees upset over retirement benefits is refiling the lawsuit.

Thirteen former workers never received early retirement benefits they claim Albemarle promised them.  All say they agreed to an early retirement package when the county was looking to reduce staff and expenses.

The employees won the case in late 2011, but the county appealed all the way up to the state Supreme Court. The suit was thrown out by the Supreme Court earlier this month.

Lawyer Edward Lowry said along with refiling the lawsuit they are also putting in a claim for the portion of the additional retirement benefits which have accrued since the original trial.
