Albemarle police are investigating a fatal crash on Scottsville Road near Vintage Market Wednesday night.
They say a work truck ran head-on into a tree and then caught fire. The driver of the truck, 59-year-old Gary Meeks of Scottsville, died at the scene.
Meeks' body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond. The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and that Meeks was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
An accident reconstruction team is investigating the cause of the crash and talking to eye witnesses.
Scottsville Road is no longer closed.

The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday, March 27th, 2013.
The crash took place around 6:20 p.m. in the 3000 block of Scottsville Road near Vintage Market. A 2001 Chevrolet work truck ran off the road, struck a tree and then caught fire. The driver of the truck died on the scene and has not yet been identified. His body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond.
Scottsville Road was completely closed down from 6:20 p.m. until just after 10 p.m.. The Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. At this time, it does not appear that speed is a factor.
This is the first fatal crash in Albemarle County in 2013. In 2012, we had a total of 12 fatal crashes.
