UVA Adjusting To Coaching Changes At Spring Practice
The Virginia football team held its third practice of the spring season Saturday at Scott Stadium.
The Cavaliers have a lot of changes on the coaching staff heading into the 2013 season.
Jon Tenuta is the new defensive coordinator.
Steve Fairchild takes over as offensive coordinator.
Former NC State coach Tom O'Brien joins the staff as the associate head coach, and Larry Lewis takes over the special teams.
Head coach Mike London says while a lot of the principles remain the same, the new terminology can be difficult for everyone.
"I have my playbook, just like everyone else," says London. "Offense, defense, and special teams. The terms are different. Some concepts are similar. There's some things which I think can help this team better."
Sophomore quarterback David Watford is currently listed as #1 on the depth chart, ahead of Phillip Sims, who started four games for the Cavaliers last year
Head coach Mike London says changes in the coaching staff could be an advantage for a guy like Watford, who redshirted last year.
"When you come in in a new situation, there's all new eyes on you" says London. "Who can learn the terminology, who can pick it up? Outside of wiping the slate clean, it's an aspect of who can pick up and execute the way coach Fairchild wants the offense to execute."
The Cavaliers will have another open practice at Scott Stadium next Saturday.
