The #9 Virginia women's lacrosse team won 9-3 at #19 James Madison Wednesday night.
UVA led 3-0 after a low-scoring first half, and didn't allow JMU to score its first goal until the 23:52 mark of the second half.
Sophomore Morgan Stephens led all scorers with three goals.
Junior Ashlee Warner and sophomore Courtney Swan each had two goals and three assists.
Senior Casey Ancarrow scored two goals to lead the Dukes.
Virginia head coach Julie Myers says, "We knew our schedule was tough, especially in the beginning of the season, but we really felt like it was going to help prepare us for the teams coming up. JMU is another great team. To be able to go on the road in the middle of the week and come up with a pretty dominating performance, give us a lot of momentum to build on."
Virginia (5-4) has won three straight games, and will host #6 Duke Saturday at 1pm.
JMU (5-2) will play at #1 Maryland Saturday at noon.
