Albemarle Student Wins Top Honors in Regional Art Contest

On the heels of some big awards in science and engineering, Albemarle County High School students are also making waves in the arts.

Albemarle senior K'Leigh Williams won top honors in the Virginia School Boards Association Regional Art Contest for her Halloween-inspired self-portrait, making her one of nine students across the state. The image is composed of thousands of tiny dots.

Williams says she never expected to receive this kind of recognition for her art.

"Very surprised that she would even consider it for a contest, like even representing Albemarle. It's just a really great honor," Williams said.

Williams' work will be on display at the VSBA offices in Albemarle County, followed by the state superintendent's office in Richmond.

This is the 25th year of the VSBA Regional Art Contest.
