Group of Women Plan Event To Help Others Find Happiness
The pursuit of happiness - it's part of the age-old American dream. But with work, bills, and chores, it's no wonder many of us aren't as happy as we want to be.
Now a group of Charlottesville women is aiming to change that by teaching people in central Virginia how to be happier.
"The workshop is all about joy and pleasure," said Sandra Savine, one of the event organizers.
Savine said hedonism has a bad reputation. It's often associated with people who overindulge and go to great lengths to make themselves happy, even at the expense of others. But she said balanced hedonism is a whole different story.
"Balanced hedonism is actually very good for you physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually," she said.
Savine and two other women are hosting a balanced hedonism workshop in April. They say it's about helping people find pleasure in life so that they can "feel good to do good."
Those who attend the day-long workshop will cook, meditate, reflect, talk in groups and take notes, and go out in nature to find peace.
"I think our essence is joy, however life does have its way with us often, and it does make life very stressful for us, but even within those times there's a type of joy that we call inner peace and that inner peace is always accessible," Savine said.
The balanced hedonism workshop will take place Saturday April 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It will take place at The Bridge Between The Worlds, a serene event space in Keswick. The organizers say the pond and natural atmosphere will help people relax and reflect.
It costs $160 to take part, which includes a gourmet lunch, snacks, beverages and a gift bag.
The meditation and reflection will be lead by Sandra Savine. Terre Sisson will lead the preparations for a nutritious lunch and Mary Michaud will help attendees "explore their flower essence."
