Virginia Advances in the NIT with a 67-56 win over Norfolk St.

It wasn't pretty but Virginia beat Norfolk State 67-56 despite 18 turnovers and 15 missed free throws to advance in the NIT.   Virginia will host St. John's in the second round.

Justin Anderson and Akil Mitchell each led Virginia with 15 points each.  Joe Harris had 12 points.   Norfolk State scored the first eight points of the game before Virginia rallied.   The Cavaliers' lead was just three with 5:41 to play.

Coach Tony Bennett said after the game, "You know we got just enough stops to be successful but we had trouble handling the ball, making free throws, keeping them off the glass those things kind of cost us, but enough plays were made on the defensive end.  Not a pretty game at all but to come away with one not playing well was important and we have to be ready for a very athletic St. John's team.

Virginia's second round game against St. John's will be either on Sunday or Monday.
