Virginia Football Gears Up For 2013 With Familiar Game-Plan

Posted: Updated:

The Virginia football team will kick off its 2013 season with its first spring practice at 8:30 AM Monday, March 18.

The team will also officially unveil the new 14.5 million dollar George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility.

The Cavaliers will have new faces coaching on the sidelines as they hit the turf for the first time, but that doesn't mean the game-plan will be any different.

New offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild plans to stick with the pro-style approach and is looking for a physical run game to go along with big-play opportunities in the passing game.

Head coach Mike London says despite the leadership changes, the 'Hoos style of play should look familiar to players and fans.

"His philosophy - it does fit very closely with the fact that I think that we have to be able to run the ball with authority. That's part of the philosophy that I've had for a while. Instead of looking to radically change things in terms of a whole different approach, that wasn't going to be the case," said London. He added, "The coaches have been working diligently to put in those things - you know alignments and gaps - things that are very familiar to what we've done in the past and now the challenge is to put it all together on the field and to execute it on March 18."
