Proffit Road Bridge Temporarily Closing - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, Sports and Weather

Heavy rains in January may affect commuting in and around Charlottesville this week.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will temporarily close the Proffit Road Bridge over the Rivanna River to remove storm debris.

The bridge, near Route 20, will be closed from March 19-21. Crews will use heavy equipment to remove debris that washed against the bridge during those heavy rains.

VDOT says debris makes the structure vulnerable to flooding in the event of another storm.

Signs will be posted to detour motorists.
