#12 Ohio State Edges #9 UVA Men's Lacrosse 11-10

Posted: Updated:

The UVA men's lacrosse team (5-3) dropped another heartbreaker to Ohio State 11-10 at Klockner Stadium Saturday March 16, 2013.

Virginia's three losses this season combine for three goals and their opponents game-winners have all come in overtime or the last 1:31 of regulation.

The 'Hoos were down 10-8 after the third quarter and the game was delayed for an hour and 43 minutes due to lightning.

Virginia came out of the delay fired up.

The Cavaliers clawed their way back and equalized the game at 10-10 when Tanner Scales caused a turnover and Greg Danseglio found Ryan Tucker for the goal.

But Ohio State drilled in the game winner with 1:31 left on the clock to seal their 11-10 victory over the 'Hoos.

Nick O'Reilly led Virginia with four goals and one assist.

O'Reilly and Ryan Tucker tried to connect with 3.8 seconds remaining in the game - but couldn't capitalize.

Tucker said, "Its obviously nerve wracking but its also exciting. Its great to be out there on the field and have your coaches trust you to make a play and it just didn't go our way today and that happens."

"Some of our shots didn't go in. I had an opportunity from Ryan Tucker. I had a great look to tie it up with three seconds left but you know I wish we could've tied it up and had the chance to go into overtime but we'll just take it from here and try to get a win next week," O'Reilly added.

The 'Hoos return to action this Saturday when they hit the road to take on Johns Hopkins at M&T Bank Stadium at 4:30.
