Cancer Researcher Speaks on Benefits of Relay for Life
Relay for Life in the valley is gearing up for its big spring walk. Thursday, organizers heard from someone who uses the money they work so hard to raise.
Dr. Amir Jazaeri of University of Virginia Medical Center is a cancer researcher funded by the American Cancer Society. Jazaeri says that Relay for Life is critical, especially at a time when government funding for cancer research is the lowest it's been in decades.
But the weekend walk is about more than just money.
"It gives communities a support network of people whose lives or whose family may be touched by cancer to know that they're not alone. And many of the things that they're going through are shared experiences, shared challenges," Jazaeri said.
The Staunton/Waynesboro/Augusta Relay for Life is the weekend of May 11. To sign up or learn more, click here.
