2nd Meeting Held on 'Create Charlottesville' Art Initiative

The Piedmont Council for the Arts is taking the community's input and turning it into a plan of action for Charlottesville's art scene.

Thursday, cultural leaders met at CitySpace for the second steering committee meeting for the "Create Charlottesville" initiative.

They are using the results of 1,000 online surveys and 250 focus groups as a jumping-off point to plan for the future.

"It's a converging of arts, culture, heritage, entertainment leaders and non-profits, for-profit, education public sector. We're looking at what works well in terms of arts, culture, heritage opportunities and places where we might make some improvements," said Craig Dreeszen, cultural planning expert.

Task forces brainstormed ways to make sure opportunities to enjoy the arts are available to everyone, to attract visitors to the area through the arts, to help artists in the community, and to protect and improve arts education.
