UVA Basketball Will Wait And Watch At ACC Tournament
The Virginia men's basketball team begins the ACC tournament on the bubble for the NCAA tournament.
UVA has a bye in the first round Thursday, so all the Cavaliers can do is watch and see if they'll play 12-seed Virginia Tech or 5-seed NC State.
The Cavaliers had their pre-tournament practice at the Greensboro Coliseum Wednesday at six o'clock.
For the second straight year Virginia is the 4-seed for this tournament.
UVA beat Virginia Tech both times they played this season, and the Cavaliers beat NC State by three points at JPJ in January.
Virginia hasn't won a game away from John Paul Jones Arena in over a month.
Senior point guard Jontel Evans says, "Our defense has to be sound. Those games we lost on the road at Florida State and Miami our defense broke down in crucial moments of the game. We just have to play a full 40 minutes of defensive basketball."
Junior guard Joe Harris adds, "We're just trying to bring the same energy that we had when we were at JPJ. Playing at a neutral site in the ACC tournament, I think the energy will be there. It's a different feel, a different atmosphere. I think people can kind of sense that being here at shoot-around it's different than anything you play in during the regular season."
"We're not worried about the NCAA tournament until we get there," says freshman guard Justin Anderson, "it's up to us on how we perform for the future. We just can't speak, and the NCAA tournament happens. We have to go out there and prove ourselves. Not just for one game but for the whole tournament. We need to keep an eye on the prize."
All the ACC tournament games can be seen on NBC29.
