The president of the Charlottesville National Alliance of Black Educators officially announced his candidacy for City Council Wednesday.
Dozens gathered at Tonsler Park to support Wesley Bellamy. Bellamy, 26, says his goal is to help move the city forward. If elected, he wants to focus on helping the poor and economic development.
"Developing some of the small businesses within the city, furthermore helping out with education, which everyone knows I'm on the forefront of, that's one of my big sticklers," Bellamy said.
Bellamy is running for the democratic seat left open by Dave Norris. The primary election is June 11.
