Notre Dame Joins ACC Earlier Than Expected

Posted: Updated:

The Fighting Irish and the Big East Reached an agreement Tuesday, March 12 that will allow Notre Dame to join the ACC two years early.

This move came one year earlier than anticipated after the split among the Big East's Football schools and seven Catholic schools that are forming their own basketball focused conference.

The ACC Commissioner, John Swofford said, "We've been ready to receive them sooner or later. Whenever they could exit the Big East conference in an appropriate way so its an exciting day for the Atlantic Coast Conference."

This action means the Irish will be joining the ACC at the same time as fellow Big East members Syracuse Pittsburgh.

Louisville should join the ACC next season.
