#3 Cornell Men's Lacrosse Scores Late To Beat #8 UVA 12-11

Cornell's Steve Mock scored off a pass from Rob Pannell with 13 seconds remaining in the game  to lift the #3 Cornell men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory against #8 Virginia Saturday at Klockner Stadium.

UVA Head Coach Dom Starsia said, "They're too dangerous to leave them with any time left on the clock.  We needed to finish the game after Rob scored, and we just weren't able to do that."

Virginia's Nick O'Reilly added, "Rob made a big play. Came down the field and tied it up for us, and obviously now the momentum is with us, but they got the ball back and made a big play."

The Big Red (5-0) went 6-of-7 against Virginia in faceoffs, which helped lead to a 5-2 Cornell run to close out the game.

The teams combined for 41 turnovers, 24 of which were credited to Cornell.

Scott McWilliams and Tanner Scales marked All-American Rob Pannell and forced the nations leading scorer to turn the ball over eight times.

McWilliams and Scales both had three turnovers on the night.

Virginia (5-2) had seven different scorers against the Big Red.

Nick O'Reilly led the Wahoos with three goals and one assist.

UVA freshman goalie Dan Marino had seven saves.

Marino said, "We've had two losses, and they definitely could've been two wins, but we'll learn from this.  We'll get better and we'll definitely grow up as a team."

Virginia will be back in action next Saturday as they host Ohio State at 3 p.m. at Klockner Stadium.
