Fire Dept. Advises to Change Smoke Detectors with Clocks
It's time to change the clocks and check smoke detectors.
Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday. That's when the clock will spring forward an hour.
The Charlottesville Fire Department is reminding everyone that the time change is also a good time to change the batteries in your home's smoke detectors.
"We like to remind everyone when their clocks change for them to change the batteries in their smoke detectors, the smoke detector should be checked monthly, just by pushing the test button on them and periodically they should be vacuumed out just to get the dust and stuff out of the smoke detectors," said Gary Whiting of the Charlottesville Fire Department.
The fire department will come install smoke detectors at no charge. To obtain a smoke detector, call the smoke detector hotline at 434-970-3245.
