Press Release

CULPEPER – With sun and above-freezing temperatures assisting snow-removal efforts, all major highways in Central Virginia, including Interstate 64 and I-66, are clear of snow and ice this morning. The secondary roads in the Virginia Department of Transportation's Culpeper District have been plowed and are clear or have only minor patches of snow and slush remaining.

VDOT crews are working with utility companies on some secondary roads to clear trees that are tangled with power lines. Other crews are removing fallen trees and other debris from road shoulders where they were pushed during yesterday's storm.

While road conditions are good today motorists should be aware that temperatures will fall below freezing during the night on Thursday. As temperatures drop any water remaining on the roads will likely freeze and create black ice early Friday morning, especially on bridges, crossovers, ramps and turn lanes.

Residents and motorists are reminded that they can report downed trees or other maintenance issues by calling VDOT's Customer Service Center at 1-800-367-ROAD (7623).

Road conditions and weather for all highways in Virginia are available 24/7 on VDOT's 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org. Once on the road VDOT's 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
