The University of Virginia athletics director is speaking out Friday after Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski complained about the risk to players' safety at Thursday night's game at John Paul Jones Arena.
Cavalier fans rushed the court right after the buzzer to celebrate the team's 73 to 68 win over the Blue Devils.
Krzyzewski was outraged and concerned about his team's safety.
"It's not all fun and games when people are rushing the court. Especially for the team that lost. Again, congrats to them and they should have fun and burn benches and do all that stuff. I'm all for that. They got a great school, great kids...but get us off the court," said Kryzewski.
University of Virginia Athletic Director Craig Littlepage told NBC29 in an email statement that UVA had a plan for keeping Duke's players in a safe zone, and that plan was successful.
Littlepage said it took only about one minute to get Duke's team to the locker room after the teams shook hands.
