UVA Patients and Friends Committee to Share Latest Findings
University of Virginia cancer researchers will share their latest findings over a free breakfast. The Patients and Friends Steering Committee is hosting the presentation Thursday morning at Alumni Hall.
Last year's event featured pancreatic cancer survivor and former UVA basketball coach Debbie Ryan.
Thursday, a pair of UVA doctors will discuss new ways they're targeting molecules in blood cancers - including leukemia - to kill the tumor without damaging surrounding healthy cells.
"We're now starting to understand why some people do well, some people do less well. More importantly, we're now developing and have developed new treatments that are really improving the outcomes for all of these patients," said Dr. Michael Williams, hematologic malignancies chief.
The breakfast begins at 8 a.m. It is free and open to the public, but guests are encouraged to register online. Click here to register.
