The UVa football team has gotten a verbal commitment from one of the mostly highly touted recruits in the country. Bayside High School Safety Quin Blanding announced on Wednesday that he will play college ball for Mike London at Virginia.
Blanding is rated a 5-star prospect by Rivals and is ranked as the fourth best overall player for the class of 2014. Blanding chose UVa over dozens of other schools including some of the biggest college football programs in the nation like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Ohio State.
Blanding is a 6 foot 2, 196 pound safety. He is following in the footsteps of his Bayside HS teammate Taquan Mizzell, who is a 5-star running back that signed with Virginia earlier this month. UVa rising junior defensive back Demetrious Nicholson also played at Bayside High School. Virginia wide receiver Anthony Cooper and linebacker Henry Coley are also Bayside HS grads.
Blanding says, "Driving there, when you're in Charlottesville you know you're there because it feels like family. You see people running, laughing having fun and just being themselves there and that's what I really like. I just feel like when I step out of the car in front of the stadium, in front of anywhere I just feel like this is home for me."
Blanding finished his junior season with 55 receptions for 1,035 yards and six touchdowns. At defensive back he intercepted five passes and had 111 tackles. He was voted first-team All-Beach District at wide receiver and the Beach District Defensive Player of the Year.
