Staunton Grand Jury Will Hear Escaped Prisoner Case

A grand jury is set to hear the case of an inmate accused of escaping from a prison work detail near Staunton.

Shawn Milton Barb, 26, faces a felony escape charge. He and Joshua Ansell, 28, reportedly managed a few hours of freedom last August.

At a preliminary hearing held Tuesday, a corrections officer testified that the duo escaped while working along Interstate 81. Officers, tracking dogs and a helicopter searched for them, and officers recaptured the two in Staunton.

Ansell has already been indicted. Barb's case goes to an Augusta County grand jury in April.
