Monday night marked the first chance for Albemarle County supervisors to hear from the public about the proposed $321 million budget for fiscal year 2013-2014.
While the budget is larger this year than last, some are still worried about the $1.4 million budget shortfall the schools are facing. Dozens of people asked the supervisors to support the superintendent's budget request to close the gap.
"I do not see any additional areas to cut that will not affect our children directly, and I'm worried that this shortfall will result in cuts to vital programs in our school," said Jenny Cummins, a parent.
There will be at least two additional public hearings before the budget is adopted at the beginning of April.
