Police Investigate Slayings of Fauquier Couple

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Police are searching for a person of interest in the slayings of an elderly couple in Fauquier County.

Police tell media outlets that 60-year-old John Wesley Jeffries of Fredericksburg is believed to be armed and dangerous. Jeffries is also wanted in Spotsylvania County on malicious wounding and other charges stemming from an incident in Spotsylvania.

Police say the bodies of 80-year-old Nelson Slack and his 74-year-old wife, Ethel, were found early Sunday in their home on Bunker Hill Road. The couple's vehicle was found Sunday afternoon on Lafayette Boulevard.

Jeffries is listed as a violent offender on the Virginia Sex Offender Registry.
