The Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards (CATS) are cutting homeowners a break to encourage them to plant trees.
The group is handing out 180 $25 tree vouchers. They're hoping to increase Charlottesville's canopy to help with pollution and heat.
They are encouraging homeowners to plant trees that are native to the area, like redbuds, dogwoods and cherry trees.
"If you look and you see the way that trees have been trimmed because our power lines are still up, it's important to put a tree in there that will not have to be trimmed and it will be able to retain its glory throughout its years," said Rosanne Simon, of the Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards.
The program is funded by a grant from the Bama Works Fund and a matching grant from an anonymous tree steward.
