Hundreds Participate in Waynesboro Mud Run

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of runners are recovering after taking on a muddy adventure in Waynesboro Saturday morning.

Waynesboro Parks and Recreation hosted the second annual "Mad Anthony Mud Run" in Coyner Springs Park.

Nearly 400 runners crawled through tunnels, climbed hay bales, and scaled a six-foot wall on their four mile journey to the finish line. But they didn't do it alone.

"We ran through tires and then we hit the six-foot wooden wall, which was hard to get over, and then that was followed immediately by the hay bales and they were hard but it was good because everyone on the course was helping each other out to get over them," said Alison Snider, mud runner.

The race honors the city's namesake - Revolutionary War General "Mad" Anthony Wayne.

Runners got to reenergize at a post-race party, where awards were given out for fastest time, best in mud, and best costume.
