Charlottesville Library Declares March Big Read Month
The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is encouraging readers to turn the pages on the same book at the same time.
Charlottesville's mayor and an Albemarle County supervisor read proclamations in front of the free speech wall Saturday declaring March Big Read Month.
"The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan is the novel for this seventh annual Big Read. The library system is kicking off a month-long series of discussions and cultural events focused around the book's themes.
"It's great to be able to discuss and put reading back at the center of people's lives, give them all something to talk about at the same time," said Sarah Hamfeldt, JMRL Reference Manager. "This book is about mothers and daughters. Everyone's had a mother, so everyone can relate to it."
The Big Read will wrap up with a finale feast at Peter Chang's China Grill.
