The Monticello girls basketball team has clinched a spot in the state playoffs for the first time in school history, after the Mustangs beat Heritage 50-40 in the AA Region II / Division 3 region semifinals.
Monticello will host Western Albemarle Saturday at 7pm in the region championship game.
The Warriors defeated Handley 51-25 in the other semifinal.
Freshman Anna Sumpter scored a career high 15 points for WAHS, while junior Rachel Cooke added 11.
Stuarts Draft lost 59-51 against Clarke County in the A Region B / Division 2 semifinal, ending the Lady Cougars season.
The Western Albemarle boys' season is also over, as the Warriors lost 58-55 on a three-pointer at the buzzer against Handley.
Junior Chase Stokes scored a game-high 24 points for WAHS.
The Monticello boys lost 70-49 at Loudoun Valley, ending their season.
The Miller School boys will play for the VIC championship Saturday at 7pm at Roanoke College, after beating Liberty Christian 56-51.
Isaac Copeland poured in 25 points for the Mavericks.
Blue Ridge lost 71-53 against VES in the other Division I semifinal, while Covenant fell 92-40 against Carlisle in the Division II semifinal.
