According to Senator Time Kaine, cuts from sequestration - a series of automatic, deep defense cuts that would kick in on March 1 - would impact the entire commonwealth, not just Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia.
Kaine is currently on a three-day military tour through Virginia. Thursday, he stopped by the National Guard Armory in Staunton where he hosted a town hall discussion with citizen-soldiers.
Kaine says Congress must commit to steady, reliable funding for the National Guard.
"Some of the budgetary uncertainty really affects the readiness mission. So scheduled maintenance, scheduled training... those are the first things that start to get hit. And that's exactly the wrong message to send to our allies and our adversaries," said Kaine.
Kaine's tour also includes military bases and a veteran's hospital.
He hopes to have a short-term agreement on military spending next week.
