A bigger paycheck could be in store for Waynesboro school employees, not only teachers.
School board members discussed the superintendent's proposed budget at Tuesday night's meeting. It includes a 3 percent raise for all 500 Waynesboro school employees.
But the change is not without sacrifice, such as the loss of four full-time positions and a $700,000 price tag. Superintendent Robin Crowder says the governor's budget calls for raises, but there's a catch.
"Two percent raises for SOQ positions - standards of quality positions. No school division in Virginia has only SOQ positions. We can't operate a school division because the state continues to underfund public education," Crowder said.
School board members were vocal about needing more support from the city as well. They plan to talk to city councilors about a new funding formula that addresses their growing student population.
