Hungry families will have a chance to eat a square meal, thanks to children and teenagers in an Albemarle County neighborhood.
A group from the Old Trail neighborhood in Crozet loaded the donations onto a Blue Ridge Area Food Bank truck Monday morning. They kicked off the campaign last week and dropped off food donation bags at more than 400 houses.
They want to set a standard for giving back.
"The littler kids - like the toddlers - they really need a good role model in their life so they can grow up and they can set a good life. Once they grow up, they have other kids and they are role models for them so I mean it's just like a big cycle and it keeps on going on," said Avery Moultrie, a volunteer.
The food bank estimated that it was able to collect more than 2,000 pounds of food. Efforts like these are essential because donations drop off after the holiday season.
