Middle school students are getting a chance to test their math and science skills at the college level through a new class at Piedmont Virginia Community College.
The students are learning to build and program their own robots. The "College 4 Kids" course is taught by a PVCC engineering student, who is sharing some of what he learns in his college courses with the middle schoolers.
"It's like a bridge to be kids and to become one day maybe an engineer," said Roland Nzaou, the robotics teacher. "So they are learning in a very small size how the robot works, and also they are going to program the robot so this is like a bridge between just a game and also real life."
While the students learn how to make robots, other courses give students a first look at forensics, television production and fashion design.
