Nelson County Football Hires New Head Coach

Posted: Updated:

Nelson County High School has a new head football coach.

Mark Poston is the new man in charge of the Governors.

He comes to Nelson from Eastern Montgomery High School, where he's been the head coach for the past seven seasons.

Poston replaces Mark Wells at Nelson after a 2-8 season last year.

The new Governors coach runs an up-tempo offense similar to what Rich Rodriguez uses at Arizona.

Poston says, "We're going to throw the football. We're going to run it. But the main thing in the tempo. We run about one play every nine seconds. When we've been really good, we could snap it once every six seconds. I know that's really, really fast, but the kids can do it."

Mark Poston coached Eastern Montgomery to the state championship game in 2010.

"We've scored 65, 66 points," says Poston. "In 2010 we averaged 42 or 43 points per game, and that was without really offending people. You can really ring people up, if you know what you're doing."
