The race for a seat on Charlottesville's City Council is taking off. Kristin Szakos announced her plans to run for a second term as a councilor.
She made the announcement Thursday at the Free Speech Wall on the downtown mall.
Szakos says her top three priorities include ensuring everyone has a voice in city government, working on education, housing and jobs and hearing from the youth in the community.
The incumbent says she's no shoe-in.
"I don't think you should take anything for granted and, actually, I think the beauty of our system of re-elections of elections is that it really makes sure we go back to the public and say, 'What do you think? How am I doing? Is this something you want me to keep doing for another four years?'" said Szakos.
Szakos still needs signatures to be on the ballot this fall. Councilors serve four-year terms.
