UVA Included in VA Collaboration to Tackle Logistics Operations

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - Several Virginia schools are working together to help industry and government agencies change how they do business.

Gov. Bob McDonnell on Tuesday announced the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Logistics Systems.

The collaborative effort is modeled after the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing in Prince George County. That center is bringing business and universities together in an effort to create a high-tech manufacturing hub.

The university partners for the new center include Longwood University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia State University. The first industry members include Prince George-based Logistics Management Resources and McLean-based LMI.

Officials say the work will focus on streamlining and strengthening operations and improving products and services.

Membership fees, contracts and federal and state grants will fund the research and development activities.
